Time for an Easter Parade!

Do you know the tradition of an Easter Parade? I remember the song from when I was a kid...

But mostly I remember getting a new Easter dress every year when I was young. At our house, "getting a dress" meant planning weeks ahead so my mom could sew it. We began with a trip to the neighborhood fabric store, perusing those thick pattern books and selecting fabric and trim. Then I'd try to be patient while mom diligently sewed. She was an amazing seamstress and sewed almost everything in my closet for many years.

Many fittings - and Mom's hard work later - I got to debut my Easter dress at Sunday school and church. Of course some years the fickle Kansas spring weather didn't cooperate and my pastel dress really needed to be flannel and fur. But whatever...it always made me smile to wear my new Easter finery. Did I mention that white shoes were always important at Easter? White shoes signaled the true beginning of springtime.

We're proud to debut a different sort of Easter Parade this year at L*K!

Does anyone recognize these 3 designs? They are oldies from the L*K archives. Each project was originally a "promotional" kit from a springtime Nashville Needlework market. Several projects haven't been available for many years. Occasionally they pop up on the "I Love Stitching Lizzie*Kate" Facebook group, and there are always requests for reprints...so here they are.

We've combined the trio into one chartpak and are bringing them out of retirement!!! Check out the larger pics of each colorful design.

Hip Hop

Egg Hunt

Peep

The folks at 123stitch.com are also assembling an optional embellishment pack (sold separately) with all the buttons for all 3 projects.

  3. My Mother also sewed most of our clothes, and I remember many matching outfits with my sister. As we got older I didn't appreciate that too much, but they are treasured memories now.

  4. As I read your blog it brought back sooo many memories! My mom, too, was an excellent seamstress. Age and arthritis have limited her skills. My sisters and I would have so much fun going to the fabric store picking out the patterns and fabric for our special Easter dresses. And absolutely new white shoes!! Thanks for making these adorable charts available. Happy Easter - Happy Spring!

My sisters and I had so much fun going to the fabric store with her to pick out our patterns and fabric for our Easter dresses. And always new white shoes - and sometimes hats and white gloves! 6. My maternal grandmother also was an excellent seamstress. She made patterns out of newspaper. She had 25 grandchildren but managed to make Easter dresses for my two sisters and me that were exactly alike one year. Guess we were the lucky recipients that year. I loved that we all looked alike. Thank you for the cute Easter designs!

  8. My mom also sewed my clothes and at Easter sometimes a matching coat was added. I can specifically remember a pink hat one Easter and always white shoes. She taught me to sew and I have sewn and smocked for my sons and grandchildren. Thank you for releasing these beautiful designs.

  9. I never got to enjoy the Easter traditions of new Easter clothes and never even knew that this was done for years! But we would get brown paper bags from the store and fill them with real grass from the yard- they would have colored eggs and a little bit of candy in them on Easter morning. The biggest surprise was seeing broken colored egg shells on the sidewalk sprinkled about by who, of course! The Easter Bunny!!!

  12. As a child, Easter was one of my FAVORITE times of the year. I remember us going to my grandparents' church on this particular Sunday, because they ALWAYS had a community Easter Egg hunt. I really missed it for my children as they grew up because I moved to the north and it would be too icy and cold there. However, I am back in the south. This year, my church has brought back the Easter Egg Hunt and I am excited for the children! Love your Easter Designs! In fact, I am about to start your April Flip - It and April Stamp designs! Thank you for triggering those memories!

  13. I also have fond memories of getting a new dress for Easter. My mother did not sew, but it was still fun to go shopping and know that I would have a fancy new dress for church with the fancy socks and shoes. Thanks for sharing your memories and bringing these adorable patterns back for us.

  14. My mother, too sewed all our Easter dresses and we would have shoes, purse, and hat to wear. The weather in NC also could mean we had to wear sweaters, etc. to stay warm.

  15. My memories are similar to yours. A new dress, an Easter hat, new white patent leather shoes, a purse... sometimes hidden under a heavy winter coat! I grew up in Overland Park Kansas, so I know what Kansas weather is like.
